A Colombian palm oil producer realized that a high number of people in their region are food insecure.
Following an initial food security assessment, the producer implemented improvement measures in consultation with their workers and the local community.
Find out what they did!
Food security is a basic human right, yet today about 673 million people face hunger—around one in every 12 people worldwide. Many are smallholders and workers who produce globally traded agricultural goods. Hunger is a violation of human rights and can also undermine supply chain stability.
The Food Security Standard (FSS) enables producers to address the Right to adequate Food in agricultural production. Including the FSS in a company’s sustainability management helps ensure that farmers, workers, and neighboring communities are food secure.
“The FSS allows us to improve the working conditions of our employees every day.”

The contents of the Interactive Farm were filmed in 2023 at Gremca, an FSS-audited Colombian palm oil producer. Gremca cultivates over 8,000 hectares of palm oil and produces over 30,000 tonnes of crude oil per year.
Gremca conducted a self-assessment using the FSS, then identified and implemented measures to promote food security in line with the FSS approach. Their efforts were then externally verified through an ISCC-FSS audit.
